Historical Interpreter, Bowman’s Hill Tower

The Friends of Washington Crossing Park shares the powerful story of General George Washington’s daring crossing of the Delaware River on Christmas Night 1776 and interprets its ongoing impact on world history for both today’s citizens and future generations. Through the fundraising and the generous support of our donors and members, we are able to maintain and sustain this significant historic site and welcome thousands of schoolchildren, families, individuals and groups every year.

 

Title of Position: Historical Interpreter, Bowmans Hill Tower (seasonal March-December)

Reports to: Visitor Services Coordinator

Compensation: $10-$14 hourly, 1-3 days weekly, primarily weekdays

Job Purpose: Assist Park visitors efficiently, courteously and professionally in all front office related functions including cashiering, providing information and interpretation.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Assist in visitor services by providing tour and park information.
  • Serve visitors by providing historical interpretation at the, Bowman’s Tower.
  • Provide support for group tours, park programs and events.
  • Take part in general park operations, including answering phones, opening and closing procedures, and light housekeeping.
  • Assist in light maintenance of park grounds.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.

 

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Candidate must possess skills in customer service, multi-tasking and basic computer skills
  • College undergraduate or graduate completed or working on a degree in history, museum studies or a related field preferred. Current high school seniors may also be considered.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with related work or volunteer experience.
  • Must be available 1-3 days a week, including weekends, holidays and all major park events including Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Fall Market, Dress Rehearsal and Christmas Crossing Event.
  • Final candidate must pass PA and FBI criminal and child abuse background checks.
